Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Question. I understand I could attend some meetings before making a final decision to join U3A, which I would like to do. Do I need to let anyone know I would like to attend, or just turn up? Would there be a contribution to refreshments, speaker’s time?

Answer. We do offer a "try before you buy" system. We allow two visits to Wednesday morning programme meetings before joining. We simply ask for a donation of £1 per visit and you just turn up. This is limited to the Wednesday meetings only - you would not be able to attend and join any study group prior to becoming a full member and paying your subscription fee to join U3A.

Question. What is the subscription fee to join U3A?

Answer. The Annual Membership subscription is £20 payable by Standing Order in January, and £16.50 for Associate members. (Associate Members are defined as members who already hold a subscription at another U3A group in a different area.) We operate a pro rata scheme on the first year's subscription for those joining during the year.

Question. Who is eligible to join the U3A?

Answer. Membership of a U3A is open to all in their third age, which is defined not by a particular age but by a period in life in which full time employment has ceased.
