The University of the Third Age - Welwyn Hatfield

Writing for Pleasure Study Group

Leader: Jenny Roden 01707 339 141.

The Writing for Pleasure Group meet, from 10.00am to 12 noon, on the first Monday of each month in Campus West opposite Screen 3 and round the corner from the upstairs café. When the first Monday of the month is a Bank Holiday, then we meet on the second Monday.

We are a small, lively group of mixed ability members who enjoy language, writing in a variety of genres and sharing their work.

Together, we decide on possible topics for writing which can be interpreted in any way that suits the writer, using any genre. Once written, our efforts are shared with the group at the next meeting. Serious or comical, remember we are writing “creatively”, a range of feelings and memories, real or imaginary, may be explored. Usually, some lively discussion follows each reading and some friendly constructive comments are offered. When time permits, we then enjoy a short workshop of a language based activity - this may be a game, writing challenge or a discussion “sparked off” from someone’s writing.

Come along to one of our sessions and see for yourself what we get up to, perhaps you may wish to join us?
