The University of the Third Age - Welwyn Hatfield

Recorder Ensemble

Leader: Jane Lewis, 01438 716760

Meetings are held at Digswell Village Church, Warren Way, Digswell, AL6 0DH on Thursday mornings at 11am.

We are an ensemble where over one dozen people enjoy playing the four well known sizes of recorders together. You are most welcome to join us, and we will be pleased to see beginners. Our meetings are 90 minutes, in which typically, three persons conduct for 30 minutes each. We do a lot of sight reading, so we gain considerable expertise and technique while we have fun playing a wide range of music. We play music from every century, and from a range of genres and composers. We have played music written in the 21st century and met the composer. So we gain in musical understanding, (We have a large library of music that has accumulated over the years).

People who played an instrument when at school, but who have not touched it since, enjoy our ensemble playing. Musicianship, following the score and the conductor, are skills that are gained no matter what instrument is being played. We have had members join us and brush up their musicianship through playing recorders, en route for finding a local orchestra or band. This group of recorder playing is for everyone. And the bigger instruments are fun to play. Come and give us a try.
