The University of the Third Age - Welwyn Hatfield

Wartime Memories (two groups)

Group Leader: Mary Perren, 01707 327289, maryperren@icloud.com
Meetings are held on Tuesdays, 2pm to 3:30 pm, in Welwyn Garden City

These groups invite anyone who has been influenced by this experience.
In u3a all of us will have had parents or grandparents who endured life in wartime, whether we ourselves were born after 1945 or before.
Apart from some of us sharing childhood memories of rationing, bombing, evacuation, etc., we noted taboo areas, perhaps too painful to be spoken of, that affected ‘the grownups’. Especially this related to those returning or mention of those who had perished: lost uncles or fathers, perhaps.
We continue to wonder about this repression of feelings and painful truths.
Realisation that it applies to ourselves in the present time and analogies of things buried in the attic literally can come to light.
How can we spread the news of war and stress to our children and grandchildren? Are they interested?
Being kept in the dark is not a good experience!
It is for these very personal reasons that the groups need to be kept small, no more than eight in each.
At present we have one or two vacancies if anyone wishes to apply
